Emma's experience and qualifications

Emma Watt has over 15 years’ experience in the field of industrial relations.  Prior to launching her own consultancy in 2006, she was employed for eight years as Industrial Relations Manager for the Timber Merchants’ Association in Victoria.  She has also worked  in industrial relations for the Country Fire Authority and as a research assistant to a Monash University lecturer in industrial relations.

Her qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Industrial & Employee Relations, a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in industrial relations and economics, and a Bachelor of Arts (Languages).

She is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria and the Law Institute of Victoria.
 

Penalties increase for breach of the Fair Work Act 2009

In most Australian legislation, penalties for breaches of the Act (including the Fair Work Act 2009) are described in terms of 'penalty units'.  Then, a single piece of legislation defines a 'penalty unit'.  For a long time now, about 15 years, the federal 'penalty unit' has been $110, and is set in section 4AA of the Crimes Act 1914.  Recently, the value of a 'penalty unit' has increased from $110 to $170. ...read more
